for their sixth release, lets play house has headed down under to scoop up australias fantastic man, a second identity of dj/producer mic newman, with which the melbourne-based artist explores—and exposes—another side of his musical and stylistic skills. and the four original songs on the its essential ep most definitely mark a bit of a departure from newmans trademark sounds: he has exchanged the thumping, peak-hour, hands-in-the-air chaos and messiness of hits like 2009s >sizzled sally< for a more refined and subtle breed of deep house.

so what is after the void ... we bang the bomb of course with a lady in a thong surrounded by snakes and hand grenades, obvious really! having been away for some time it appears that a light sounds dark spring is in the air. en route to their next destination (rumoured to be a dark subterranean world full of nasty mutants danger electrified tracks out this summer) with arms out the window and the mothership roof down, its full steam ahead and proper european dance music time. not really train spotting as before although a couple are a bit off piste like maltas very own ian dury by the name of iain richardson rapping about sitting on a green bus! much more like it however are classic italo covers of big in japan, gloria, a wonderful new wave version of falcos euro smash der kommissar and the thoughts massive german hit wait a long time sounding like some long lost talk talk record. light sounds dark do some minor tweaking (going for that natural look) to big beast anthems axodrys you and colme 111s you take me high (early euro take on chicago) and for lovers of something a bit more funky theres some groovy goings on from kraut funksters epsilon urging people to leave the city which might not be a bad idea if the water runs out.

140 gramm vinyl. alex agore and tenderpark - it just had to happen. although alex is not all soft and tender, above his tuff and powerful garage beats it’s all sweetness. with his sugary chords and piano hooks as well as heavenly soul vocals alex demonstrates his deep love for harmonic richness and melodic sensitivity. a passion for the soulful side of house and a soft spot for pop - that’s what alex and tenderpark share and what makes them a perfect team. and a little bit of relaxed instrumental hip hop is the icing on the cake of this record and another joint love between the two.

alden tyrell hooked up with mike dunn for some new work!. a golden combination which already worked out great as we learned from the heavy remix tyrell did for the murphy jax & mike dunn collaboration (its the music - cat# cjfd06). tyrell always jamming and playing around with his synths had some tracks inspired by early mike dunn songs. so the obvious happened ... the hooked up for some appropiate vocals and here it is ... touch the sky! a peak time acid monster with mikes vocal chant in the style of his classic md3 projects. gerd is on remix duty here and delivers a killer remix with a more traditional chicago groove and build up. clone head honcho serge had some studio time with tyrell for a dub mix. the serge & tyrell dub mix turned out a bit wild and became a classic piece of piano and dx bass driven chicago house music with stuttering vocal samples and a acidic synth line. another strong clone jack for daze!

second part of recycling a la bau, heavy food this time with heavy percussion and rassling rides throughout the whole track. trikeracing is far beyond control, this track is a soundexplosion, nothing less. shuffleracing is a bit more reduced featuring a different groove and focussing on the sawtooth theme of the basic version. two more killers, no fillers, again on credo! nice feedback and support by faki, liebing, bodzin and many more, but the most defining feedback by mr. gary beck, no other words could describe it in a better way: by goodness me the trikeracing is wicked!! thats some heavy shit there. at the right moment i cant wait to play this! ... word!

daniel savio is one of the originators of the skweee genre, and actually the one who first coined the term skweee to describe the process of squeezing each and every sound used in his tunes from one single synth. it goes whithout saying that myor is very proud to present this 7 inch by the master of his trade. assecs denied is about as close as youll get to a banger within this freakazoid genre: compelling drum works, catchy synth bleeps and some obscured vocal snippets. on make it personal señor savio treads a slower and more modest pace. still skweee though, just a bit more relaxed and even slightly melancholi

keeping up their ethos of dancefloor >edits with the love left in< hmd bounce back on a1 with monster from their 3rd compilation. never before released as a 12 inch and much in demand from djs who have heard it in hmd sets, its a whole horse meat disco original track laid out underneath the original vocal acapella. playable peak time or at the end of the night its as deep as disco gets! on b1 a majestic and imperial take on a classic one more time the hmders push the way too short original track and lengthen it into a luscious, euphoric anthem. hmd take all responsibility for end of the night spontaneous dancefloor hug-ins. on b2 the boys have taken the squelchy synths of a real underground track and turned up the intensity that they felt seem to disapated in the original. keeping the vocals pretty much as they are including all the whoops and yelps that make the track so exciting hmd have stayed true to the original but have just given it the horse meat touch. a bit of added percusion and a whole lotta love.

after the successfully aras startup from the label owners andre galluzzi and dana ruh we are now presenting a hot follow-up from our friend, well known hessian johannes heil. the a side consciousness is a massive 12 minute dancefloor killer starting with a nice synth loop and some heavy kicks. after nearly a half the track turns from a warm hypnotic break into a real peaktime monster. b side track pure starts a little bit deeper with sounds that let us yearn for the sun. a very nice package for the summer.

the new ep by harmonious thelonious called ting tong ep is ready to be released. its the second record on asafa. this time its getting melodious, especially on track one and four. almost a bit like holger czukays genious song called persian love but without the short waves. the track a.o. seems to play in the jungle (its a street jungle in whereever) and profaner tanz starts with a noise pad and ends with repetitive guitars.

march sees the formidable hypercolour deliver its most surprising output yet, an ep from none other than groove armada. tom findlay and andy cato need little introduction as groove armada. chart smashes, huge live tours and being part of the worldwide electronic music history aside, the duo have never lost touch with their acid house roots and have continued to be devoted to record buying, djing and the much maligned promo trawl. tom and andy have been avid followers of the label it seemed, since its inception. it was through label head jamie, meeting the guys back in 2010 at space in ibiza, and then continued communication via hypercolour promos, that led to an out-of-the-blue email requesting an informal hook up in east london and, within just a few days, a release was scheduled. that release is the >no knock ep<, four tracks that range from 808 fuelled old school cuts to low slung, moog-bassd electronic funk. each sound is lovingly crafted but there is an analog rawness throughout and every track has the sort of tweaked, off-kilter and occasionally awkward vibe that hypercolour do so well. it just takes a bit of imagination to guess what a ga release on hypercolour should sound but failing that, just check the release out as it wont disappoint.

the title track on tychos long-awaited dive lp is just that — a ripple effect record that sounds like three songs in one, as if sound/graphic designer scott hansen just discovered progrock and decided to apply its winding passages to his own singular blend of sinewy synths and bleached beats. its also the first tycho song to feature a prominent guest musician, guitarist zac brown, in this case, who paints outside the lines of hansens halcyon hooks with restless rhythms and monorail-like riffs. the >dive< single fleshes things out even further, as keep shelly in athens and memoryhouse — both rising underground artists in their own right — cut hansens cloud-scraping composition in half and slow his cruise control chords down to a crawl. the misty vocal melodies are still there, but they are now floating through an embryonic assembly of jittery cicadas, rusty gears, and lean loops that are both welcoming and a bit woozy. the sonic equivalent of staring at the sun for too long, really, or two sides of the same cracked mirror.

after the huge success of suonhos >the ghetto< 12 inch last year, we jumped at the opportunity to work together with him again. this is the first 12 inch from an ongoing project titled >the directors cuts<. five hard to find tracks each with deep funky flavour and not originally intended for the dance floor superbly reloved, rearranged and given that extra bit of suonho magic!

ly sander & michael j. collins join forces to bring you raoul06 via raoul, a deep, soothing ep. no response is a laid back and haunting piece, featuring warm bass and soaring pads. percussion is kept simple here, with the focus on the bass groove and introspective wording. home listening and chill out sessions arent complete without this air-y number. to bring it up a bit, the >deep space orchestra remix< lays a beat and a groove under the track and takes us to galactic depths. a cool energy is spread throughout and saucy percussion takes the levels higher. this is a late night dance track that gives goose bumps. it will certainly help to reconnect senses in the early morning. >russian roulette< displays nice use of delay and relaxed percussion. this hasnt got the boom of techno, but it does have the space-y synths and ambience to bring you up to your feet. when everything is in place, it feels right an afterparty delight.

next up on frustrated funks limited vinyl series is italian producer and visual artist federico leocata. this young producers sound aesthetics can easily be compared with dataphysix style of production with its snappy, minimal and dark characteristics (who knows what their real connection might be). but when looking a bit further federico manages to create a world of its own where unpleasant, obscure and sinister sounding tracks bring you in a dark imaginary world of ropes, burning leather and foggy torture chambers. this is the second ff release in this series of limited hand numbered and hand stamped colored vinyl 12s.first come first serve.

many prominent figures throughout history have proclaimed that you can get by with a little help from your friends now whilst this is a lovely romantic notion and does, we suppose have some (albeit very small) grounding in reality you need a bit more if you want to progress through life as opposed to simply jog in. zoo look are a good example of this, whilst sam, alex and craig have been friends for quite some time, forging their completely plutonic relationship through djing together, their latest release, number 11 on join the dots is forged from more than simply the burning fires of friendship, its born out of a love of all things deep as well as house music based. they may be mates but you can also get along very well if you have bags of talent too.

if it would not be so cold outside, the latest shot of insistmusic would become an instant party classic. what ping! from thuringia have delivered this time at least definitely feels that way. the third edition of the frankfurt based vinyl label presents an intelligent, groovy techno: predictable enough to entrain, diversified enough to pleasantly surprise. the opening track depature marches across the dance floor, picking up the playful dancers with its funky offbeat elements in the beginning and taking them on an,ecstatic journey with its cleverly placed breaks. in the remix by label mate sascha sonido depature catches a touch of tribal techno moving the track with its vocals like rolling sound figures a good bit further into the house cosmos.

endless flight happy to announce talented young producer in vienna roman rauch. i listened the demo at the flat of friend in vienna and asked him to contact to roman immediately. all i need on a side is super cool detroit house sound. its musical and simple and massive on dance floor. feelings on b side is bit slower and melancholic. its not new sound at all but simply good music. you cant miss it.... roman is going to release another 12 inch on philpot in the summer, so he is going to be new star.

house music from all corners of the world on this south american label. ojodeapolo comes with an excellent various artist release. featuring japanese artist kai a.k.a kaitaro-nakajima, chicago skyway, canadas basic soul unit and south amreican label head jorge c. the record opens with his trash fantasy, a fine grooving house track accompanied by a remix by chicago skyway. b side comes with kais elegant stromthat gets a remix by basic soul unit who spiced it up a bit. a cool versatile house release!

imugem orihasam, offers a deep and introspective relation ep continuing the sistrum tradition of quality underground sounds for the true appreciators. track a1 - relation sets the tone right away, with soothing strings guiding a classic rhythm section into hypnotic territory. slowly, a tapestry of delicate textures evolves around the beats - sure to be the soundtrack to many a late night dancefloor. close your eyes and get inside your mind with this one. track b1 - “mirage” continues down the path of hypnotic, deep techno laid out on relation, toughening up the beats just a bit, with a subby kick and crisp back beat that gives it some extra punch. swirling, phasing strings and metallic, ring modulated tones float above a sub bassline that is sure to make things rumble. this is pure love from japan. track b2 - overlap lights (p. scott edit) - sistrum’s main man, patrice scott, steps in to offer his interpretation of imugem’s “overlap lights,” bringing forth his signature ultra deep, slow building future/classic detroit sound. patrice’s edit is a warm, delicate, masterful arrangement of imugem’s tones and textures - there never seems to be too much going on, just enough to convey his intended message, ever-so-effectively. clutter is left by the wayside and the listener is left with the perfect palette of sonic delights.

after investing all his sweat and blood into labelwork, mastering and his fellow artists for many years, thomas p. heckmann found the time and inspiration to get back to the studio for new music of his own for 2012. we start with this analogue beast named glitter and tand that is pure live recording and a bit of editing in the cockpit of the trope studio. wires and leads all over the place and leds blinking like mad, that?s how he likes it ! techno with no boundaries or categories and loads of knobs?

after conforces tight album release on delsin and other concept projects he did he/we went wild with this one and selected some tracks we just want to play out loud in a club from vinyl (incl. a killer remix by gesloten cirkel for the title track). at first sight these tracks dont have much in common... and probably still not for the second listen, but we didnt really bother for this one. it will be a standard in our dj box for the coming months with 4 tracks that all have a bit of a different groove and a different mood. grain, be there at night, 24 and 24 remixed by gesloten cirkel. this is probably as versatile as a clone basement release can get.

luckily, it didnt have any effect on their success. music on vinyl is re-issuing >a new stereophonic sound spectacular< on 180 grams audiophile vinyl for the first time since its original release.

one of the labels that caught our eye in the last months was lonesome hero. here their third release and its another quality one. a more then solid house track that kicks off with an intoxicating metalic bassline that hypnotically segues into the rasundas staple groove-heavy drums, with an achingly timeless piano peppered all over the top. on the flip-side, the boys over at campaign of love handle the remix duties. by tracking it out a bit, col have roughed up the original with a combination of strings and 909 snares, while keeping the spirit of the original mix alive with a snippet of its massive bassline.

the >drop the mask of self protection< remix of dominik eulberg is a bit of an adventure! unlike his >diorama< album and maybe because of its elaborate musical challenge, he has taken a time-out to create a serious club format in the true eulberg style witnessed on trapez in the past. so what does that really mean for this track? well this remix kicks off a bit of an relaxed percussive and deep house groove and undergoes in its course quite an explosive transformation! with a lot of skill and finesse mr eulberg pulls the strings with accuracy and makes the transfer of what unfolds to be a heavy big pounding techno rocker! thumbs up this is superb and eulberg at his best.

whereas frozen flower marked his most delicate and emotive release to date, the latest ep from sei a snaps things back onto a futuristic grid of bass-driven club madness. break the pattern is a techno zap-fest featuring a killer hook, precision, laser-cut drums and a rough, rolling groove.
flux blends retro video game sounds with vocal samples, laid out against a psychedelic cha-cha rhythm. this one received early support from martyn who - fresh off his lp release - weighs in with one of his strongest and most playable remixes in recent memory, driving the 8-bit riff into a frenzy, backed by iron-clad beats bouncing atop a megaton sub.. guaranteed crowd-pleaser, this one!
